McDowell Mission Ministries, Incorp. Quick Facts July 1, 2009 - June 30, 2010
We are committed in Christ to reach out and minister to the physical, emotional, spiritual, and economic needs
of all our clients (regardless of age, sex, color or creed). We work with them in a way that helps them maintain
or restore their dignity in society. The McDowell Mission Ministry, through volunteers and church support,
provides a wide range of services from giving emergency assistance. We seek to be compassionate and
caring, helping people through the short term crises. We try to help them break the cycle of poverty by
encouraging them to seek employment, education and health care which enables them to accomplish their
personal goals in life. We cooperate with other agencies to guarantee that each person receives the help
that they need. Our goal is to provide more than a Band-Aid to a hurt but to find long-term solutions that will
benefit individuals for the rest of their lives.

Mission Statement:
“McDowell Mission Ministries Is a Christian ministry dedicated to impacting the lives of people in personal
need by providing shelter, counseling, and practical economic assistance in the name of Jesus Christ.”
What we accomplish through our ministries:
**Our Crisis ministry provides food and financial assistance for rent/mortgage, utilities, heat, prescriptions,
and transportation.
**Our Chaplaincy ministry provides a part time chaplain who works with inmates and their families at
Marion's two correctional institutions. He provides counseling, worship, and educational opportunities
for the inmates.
**Our shelter ministry provides emergency housing for up to 23 men at the Thompson Center for Men
and 40 beds at the Friendship Home for Women & Children. We also provide transportation to the
residents at both shelters to work and appointments. Our goal is to see our residents return to a
productive lifestyle. Sometimes this means giving them a safe place to live while they improve their
education. Other times, this means providing a place where they are protected from an abusive
situation. Most of the time, it means just giving them a place to get back on their feet financially.
We provide informal counseling to all residents and abortion alternative counseling to pregnant women.
**Our Clothing ministry at the Christian Clothing Center provides low cost clothing, furniture, and
appliances to the public. Proceeds from the sale of goods at the center are used by our various ministries.
